Causes and remedies for Urinary Tract Infection
Women who are more sexually active are the greatest victims of Urinary tract infection or the infection of bladder or the kidneys. However, men also suffer from this infection but mostly after the age of 50.
Urinary tract infections are commonly caused by a bacterium that travels from the urinary duct or urethra into the bladder. Amongst women, pregnancy, sexual intercourse, diabetes or a past urinary tract infection leads to such kind of infection. The risk also increases when they wipe from back to the front after a bowel movement.

4. Urinate as often as you feel the urge and try to empty the bladder completely every time before and after sex.
5. Avoid intake of caffeine or alcohol during the treatment as this irritates the bladder.
6. Take showers rather than taking bath each day and wash the genital area with soap and water. Never use bubble bath or bath oils.
7. Also remember to wipe from front to back after urinating or having a bowel movement because this reduces the chances of germs getting into the bladder. It is also advisable to wear a panty with a cotton crotch.
8. Maintain your follow up visits regularly to cure the infection or else the lingering infection could even damage the kidneys.

Can I treat a UTI with herbs or natural remedies?
asked on Tue, 20 Dec, 2011
Hi, I tend to get UTI's frequent. The antibiotics that are prescribed usually every time make me very ill. The only one I can take is amoxicillin, but my doctor never really prescribes that for them. So I'm trying to see if real natural cranberry juice and herbs can get rid of them for me. Thanks in advance.

Yes, Here some natural remedies for UTI
1. Cranberry juice can sometimes be effective when dealing with a urinary tract infection. Cranberry juice has helped many and you can also buy cranberry supplements.
2. Celery, watermelon and parsley can also contribute to UTI relief by acting as a diuretic and flushing out the bladder.
3. Goldenseal can be taken as a herb or a tea and we recommend both because it can remove bacteria with a natural flush. This herb has antimicrobial and anti-viral properties and will help soothe inflamed tissues. Goldenseal is not recommended for pregnant women.
4. Avoiding coffee and spicy food can combat the causes of UTI because these foods can irritate the bladder.
5. Lemon water is another great solution for immediate UTI relief as this will treat the infection directly. Squeeze a whole lemon into a glass of water, hot or cold, and sip away. Similar with cranberry juice, lemon flushes out the infection because it rids impurities in our bodies and eliminates the source of bacteria

Cranberry capsules used to be the preferred treatment.

Hi there,
Yes, there are herbs and natural remedies that may improve UTIs.
Urinary tract infection is an infection of one or more structures in the urinary tract. Most of these infections are caused by gram-negative bacteria, most commonly Escherichia Coil or Klebsiella, Proteus, Psuedomonas, or Enterobacter. The condition is more common in women than in men and may be asymptomatic. Urinary tract infection is usually characterized by urinary frequency, burning, pain with voiding, and, if the infection is severe, visible blood and pus in the urine.
Healing Urinary Tract Infections Naturally
A nearly raw foods and vegan diet is always best when healing, or even for just maintaining optimal health and well-being. It's best if the foods are organic, too.
Eliminate entirely, or as much as you can, all meats and dairy products, eggs, refined grains, refined starches, sugar, salt, alcoholic beverages, effervescent beverages (e.g. soda pop), junk food (including fast food), etc. These things are all mainly acid-inducing foods. They lower the body's natural alkalinity and tend to promote sickness and disease.
There are plenty of herbs that may be used to heal urinary tract infections in particular and the overall urinary system in general. Herbs that have an affinity for the urinary tract in general and the kidneys in general are called "diuretic" and "nephritic" herbs. These herbs include: Uva Ursi, Cornsilk, Queen of the Meadow (Gravel Root), Chanca Piedra, Pelitory of the Wall, Five Fingers, Cleavers, Juniper Berries, Buchu, Tribulis (Gokshura), Couchgrass, Pipsissewa, Parsely Leaf, Celery Seed, Horsetail, Nettle and Devil's Claw.
As you mention, Cranberry is definitely helpful as well.
Cranberry can be taken as a freeze-dried powder (in capsule form), in tea form, and of course, in liquid form as cranberry juice (unsweetened variety).
Cranberry juice should be organic, undiluted, and unsweetened. It should be diluted with water (50/50) due to its excess bitterness. Drinking 4 ounces (diluted with water by half) daily should be enough when there is disease of the urinary tract (including sexually transmitted disease).
Cranberry contains four beneficial natural acids: Benzoic Acid, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, and Quinic Acid.
These four natural acids are very important because they help to bring about the acidification of the urine.
Quinic acid is converted by the body into Hippuric Acid and together with Benzoic Acid helps maintains a healthy urinary tract.
Drinking vegetable juice that contains celery and parsley among other veggies is very helpful and salubrious. Celery and parsley are two of the best plant-based diuretics available.
Up to four to eight ounces glass of vegetable juice daily or at least 3-4 times per week is very beneficial to the health of the body. Vegetable juice is cleansing to the entire body and is rich in organic nutrition (nutrients) and helps to maintain the body's natural alkaline pH level which keeps the body in a state of homeostasis, balance.

Not really. Some things like cranberry and garlic do help but they are better at preventing the infection, not curing it. UTIs can be very serious and if left untreated can cause permanent damage to the kidneys and other organs. Infections spread fast! It's better to see your doctor for a problem like this and try to figure out if you have another issue that is leaving you prone to chronic infections!
